Hal authorisation v1

HAL authorisation v1

Documents distributed with HAL authorisation are protected by author's rights.

HAL authorisation certifies that, when submitting their document, the submitter has granted HAL:

  • authorisation to put this document online and distribute it;

  • recognition that deposits cannot be deleted once accepted;

  • acceptance of HAL's right to reclassify or reject any deposit.

Users may read, consult and quote the work (mentioning the author(s) and source), but must request authorisation from the author or copyright holder to reproduce, adapt or use it beyond the legal exceptions.

From the end of February 2026, licence metadata will become mandatory. HAL authorisation allows existing content to be processed and will be automatically associated with any file deposited before this date if no licence is present in the metadata. This licence is not available in the list of licences offered at the time of deposit. However, it can be modified to replace it with a licence via the interface.
